Are Christmas Cards Really Dead?
When thinking about ‘Christmas Cards’, many people will still picture a traditionally printed card, perhaps one portraying a robin in a snowy scene or a cheery Santa Claus. However less and less people are now buying and sending traditional cards.
Businesses often opt to send out a generic E-Card, or a festive email to their customers. Social medias rise in popularity over the last decade has also seen many people sending their well wishes in messages to their friends list instead. Younger generations especially may opt to send a quick and easy digital Christmas wish, rather than tackling the traditional ‘Christmas Card List’ that their parents always did.
We think the rise in popularity for E-Cards could be down to cost and time, (stamps, cards, time to write etc) something which younger generations often don’t have a lot of. Awareness of sustainability could also be a contributing factor, with people aiming to cut down on festive waste.
The choice of Christmas cards is now immense, with plenty of recycled and recyclable options for you environmentally conscious shoppers! Therefore, if you prefer to show you really care with a traditional printed card, it’s possible to do so without being unsustainable! Why not cut down your Christmas card list to just close family and friends? Sending out personal, environmentally friendly cards to a dozen people, then digital Christmas wishes to everyone else.
