Has it been a good week?
Well, so far it's been just as good as last week. The work is coming in slowly but steadily. The business world seems to be yawning, stretching and beginning to wake up again.
We don't expect to suddenly be back to normal, who does?
But we are a service industry, and at the end of the food chain. To use a totally inappropriate analogy, when the business world coughs, we catch a cold.
Take the UK car industry as a source of wealth and trickle-down work for all kinds of people and businesses.
In April 2019, it built just under 72 thousand cars, in April 2020 it built 192. No not 192 thousand, 192 cars.
So we're pleased to see enquiries and job orders coming back in again from the energy industry, the leisure industry and heritage sites. Everyone is not back in work or business, but people are getting ready, sat at amber waiting to re-open.
Tourism in the UK has reason to be optimistic about the future, and we support the West Wales companies which aim to benefit from that. If there is money coming into that area, we can all benefit from it.
The proposed adaptability of the Furlough scheme (a phrase unknown to some of us just a few weeks ago, now a lifeline for many) will allow us to rebuild our workforce gradually as the volume of work increases, whilst keeping our staff safe and able to social distance from one another.
So yes, we're supplying Covid-aware products, and yes, we're on board with the 'Let's get through this together' approach. But we're also looking further ahead, as the world starts to head out of the unprecedented now, to the more predictable future.
